Preparing for a liturgy in blue

Tonight we’ll gather for three purposes

• to acknowledge losses, sorrows, or burdens–whether ours or others
• to affirm His strength
• and to offer ourselves as His comfort to others

Richard Rohr is a Franciscan priest whom we’ve quoted in passing before, but who here, I think, prepares us for this evening in one sense. He will say late in the clip here that until we go to the depths of anything we won’t find God there–or ourselves.  I think that includes the depth of our sorrows–what’s beneath them, what we fear most from them. This is not a wallowing, but a deep considering that at the same time invites God to sit with us in them if only to help us carry them.
